The aesthetic surgery of the abdomen is performed when the abdomen has too much fat that makes it lose its shape and beauty or when after pregnancy, the abdominal muscle wall is bulging and the skin is excessive or full of stretch marks. It is a surgery that is performed on both men and women.

The excess fat is treated with liposuction techniques, which can be conventional, ultrasonic or vaser, or with laser, each one has its indication and must be selected appropriately for each patient. After evaluating the patient and establishing the treatment plan, surgery is performed by removing excess fat from the abdomen.

Abdominoplasty consists of repairing the entire muscular wall damaged by excess weight or pregnancy, by plicating the rectus abdominis muscles in the midline and then removing all excess skin. The scar is located in the suprapubic area and extends laterally, parallel to the inguinal fold.  In surgery, a drain is left that has the function of helping the adherence of the abdominal wall that was detached for surgery.

This surgery requires a day of hospitalization and a recovery of at least 2 weeks. The use of a girdle is required and it must be worn for at least 8 weeks. Physical exercises can be resumed a month after surgery, except for abdominal exercises that can be restarted between two and a half months and three months.

Abdominal surgery requires a very thorough evaluation to be able to establish the treatment plan that can lead to a very favorable cosmetic result.  It is a procedure that must be performed by a plastic surgeon, who is the ideal professional to perform this procedure.

A girdle is then placed to achieve adherence of the skin to the new body shape. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and may or may not be associated with the treatment of other areas of the patient's trunk such as the waist, hips, back, axillary area, etc. Recovery so that the patient can perform their usual tasks is at least one week, but you must keep wearing the girdle for 8 weeks after surgery.

The outlining of the rectus muscles or six pack can be performed, but this is only recommended for thin people due to the consequences that it can produce if the patient later gets fat. In the postoperative period, lymphatic drainage treatments and ultrasounds or massages are indicated, which accelerate the reduction of inflammation and the fastest recovery of the patient.

When the patient's problem is a prominent abdomen with marked excess skin, the treatment required to transform it into a flat and tense abdomen is with an abdominoplasty, which may or may not be associated with liposuction, in which case it would be called lipoabdominoplasty.
