INCREASE OF THE MANDIBULAR ANGLE
Mandibular Implants are used to accentuate the contour of the angle of the jaw.
Mandibular Implants are used to accentuate the contour of the angle of the jaw. They are placed endobucally, following the contour of the angle of the mandible, the ascending branch and the horizontal. The purpose is to give greater prominence and angulation to the jaw and therefore the contour of the face. It is an outpatient procedure that requires a recovery period of 10 to 14 days
Surgical technique
The implants are inserted inside the mouth (intra-orally), without leaving visible scars. Implants are made of either hard silicone or high-density porous polyethylene. Silicone implants, which are the most commonly used, are placed in the subperiosteal area (between the jaw bone and the thin, superimposed sheet of tissue or periosteum). These implants are flexible, adapt to the topography of the bone and do not require fixation.
Post surgical
The recovery period after jaw implant surgery takes about a week in most cases. After surgery, the patient will have an elastic bandage over the area to help prevent swelling.
This stretch wrap will be used for one week. While bruising is possible, it is rather unusual. You must take a liquid diet for 2 to 3 days, without dairy, and then soft foods and doing frequent oral washes with an oral antiseptic. Medications such as antibiotics and for inflammation and pain are also indicated.
The jaw will be tender for a few days, but it is not an excessively painful procedure. After a week, patients can resume their normal activities, except for intense exercises, which are limited for a longer time.
